Audit Jobs in the Caribbean

Audit Jobs in the Caribbean

So often audit professionals opt for the career path that is solely about satisfying their work self, disregarding the need for personal fulfilment. City living is attractive for many reasons, however for those who long for the outdoors, warmer climes and shorter commutes there are a plethora of audit opportunities in locales situated in and around the Caribbean and Bermuda.

For the most part, the Caribbean and Bermuda regions are home to a number of big name US banks and typically smaller family offices, managing investments and trusts for some of the world’s wealthiest families. Audit jobs at these types of businesses are an immensely desirable option for financial services experts, particularly those with an MBA or Masters in finance which is viewed as a definite asset to audit hiring managers in the Caribbean. There is intense demand for auditors, audit managers, financial controllers, heads of audit, CFOs, audit directors and finance managers in this part of the world, though audit hiring managers are largely looking to take on those in more senior positions with at least five years’ audit experience due to the costs involved with hiring expats.

A significant number of financial services companies have allotted themselves a base for operations in both Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica with a penchant for hiring expats, while the Big Four accountancy firms regularly employ audit professionals into their Caribbean and Cayman Islands-based practices. Audit jobs in the Caribbean and audit jobs in the Cayman Islands tend to withstand every season when it comes to hiring trends and individuals who are highly educated and have acquired the relevant training, whether in CA, CPA, ACA or ACCA, will find a great deal of choice in available audit roles. Companies pay particular attention too to professionals from English-speaking countries.

For those considering audit jobs in the Caribbean it is worth noting that salaries will be lower than those located in the world’s major financial centres, ranging from $65 to 70k for senior auditors and tax accountants moving into Big Four and mid-tier firms, and upwards of $75 to 90k and $100 to 150k for captive insurance managers and actuaries respectively, with senior audit managers hitting the higher salary range. However, as is the case with regional opportunities this comes down to the lesser cost of living. Island lifestyle is a key draw to working in the Caribbean, where the majority of commutes are five minutes or less and work-life balance is consistently equal with more time to spend on hobbies, sports and time with family and friends.

It’s also worth noting that Bermuda is a tax free haven making it an even more attractive prospect for candidates looking for senior audit jobs or risk jobs in the Caribbean. With audit opportunities at banks, vacation resorts and great audit jobs with big brands like Pepsi, that span the region from Kingston to Port-of-Spain, currently available, 2016 could be the year to shift into Island mode.
