If you’re considering relocating your career to a destination that combines sunshine, beautiful beaches and an abundance of career opportunities, then KPMG in Bermuda should be at the top of your shortlist.

Brian Archibald made the leap from Scotland to Bermuda over four years ago and for him, the island lifestyle and KPMG in Bermuda community has created that elusive work-life balance that most can struggle to achieve.

Read Brian’s perspective on why KPMG in Bermuda is the ideal place to live and progress your career below:

"My career began in a mid-tier accountancy firm called Macfarlane Gray in Scotland, now part of French Duncan LLP. I joined the firm straight out of university and worked there for seven years before moving to KPMG in Bermuda in October 2014, as an Audit Senior.

I always wanted to work abroad once I had qualified, particularly somewhere warmer than Scotland! I didn’t know much about Bermuda until I saw the opportunity posted but once I did some research and realised how sports and outdoor orientated the island is, it was definitely somewhere that interested me. That, along with my interest in the Financial Services/Insurance sector, all made a move to Bermuda very appealing to me.

Also, I had reached a point in my career where I felt I needed a change and to progress. KPMG has a great reputation, and speaking to colleagues who had worked for the firm provided further support that KPMG provides good training and career opportunities. I wanted to gain experience in the Financial Services/Insurance sector and, as I had no experience within this area, having quality training and access to a professional network were major factors for me.

Now that I am here, I have found everyone at KPMG to be very helpful; whether it is a question about the job, a client, eAudit, or Bermuda itself. After two years, I was offered a promotion to Manager and I happily accepted it. It has been a big step and a significant change and learning experience but like everything here, there are always people you can count on for help and advice.

I really enjoy living in Bermuda; it’s a very sociable island and there are always things to do even in the winter when it is supposedly quieter. There is a good atmosphere and the social functions usually provide some good entertainment value and fun stories as well. There are many clubs and sports teams to join; you will never be bored and probably have too many functions to go to.

If you enjoy island lifestyles with a laid-back atmosphere, you are willing to learn, get involved and interact with people, then Bermuda really is a good place for you to live and progress your career."
