About Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a non-departmental public body (NDPB) of the Home Office.
The DBS helps employers make safer recruitment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks (previously known as criminal record checks) for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
DBS also maintains the Adults’ and Children’s Barred Lists, and makes considered decisions as to whether an individual should be included on one or both of these lists and barred from engaging in regulated activity.
Our disclosure office is based in Liverpool, and our barring office is based in Darlington.
DBS offers a range of careers, from working with the public to roles supporting operational areas of the business.
In addition to a base salary, we offer a range of benefits including:
- generous annual leave allowance
- excellent maternity, paternity, adoption and sickness benefit schemes (after a qualifying period)
- commitment to the health and wellbeing of our staff
- employee assistance programme
- flexible working opportunities

We also offer a range of support and social groups to our employees.
