The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) is driven by its unparalleled access across government to build better insights, better outcomes for our clients. Our auditors provide central government with objective, independent insight and assurance enabling its organisations to achieve better outcomes with public money. Through rigorous evaluation and assessment, we help to develop better governance, risk management and internal controls.

We also have an award-winning counter fraud and investigation service, and support finance professionals across government in their role as stewards of public money.

Both our internal audit and counter fraud roles relate to activities requested by, and agreed with, our customer organisations.

A note from our Interim Chief Executive

The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) plays a vital role providing assurance to senior government leaders, supporting them to manage, mitigate and control risks that would otherwise impact on the services they deliver.

I joined the GIAA recently as its interim chief executive and have been impressed by everyone’s commitment to delivering high quality services and ensuring the insight we offer is driving better outcomes for all our clients, right across government.

It is over ten years since the GIAA was formally established as an executive agency of HM Treasury, with the mission to bring together our collective internal audit expertise and capacity into a cross-government team. The Agency does this under the banner of its enduring mission of delivering ‘better insights, better outcomes’, which is about our Agency operating in a way that means our impact is greater than sum of our constituent parts.

You will be joining a team that works across a diverse client base including most government departments and their many related organisations. Our work is motivating, varied, and challenging in a very positive way that will enrich and enhance your long-term career path.

As a maturing and ever evolving organisation, we are now at a crucial point in our development as we work to become an ever more efficient and impactful force in our professional field. GIAA salaries are competitive in line with other Civil Service departments. We also offer generous in year rewards scheme, recognising talent and achievements.

The opportunity to work flexibly, including part-time or time-term working and access to flexible working schemes allowing you to vary your working day as long as you work your total hours.

These include paid maternity, shared parental leave, paternity and adoption leave.

Generous annual leave

Fulltime employees will have 25 days of annual leave entitlement on entry to the civil service, increasing one day each year to 30 days after five years’ service. There are also 8 public holidays.

There is also one further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the birthday of the monarch.

Your pension

We offer a competitive contributory pension scheme  that you can enter as soon as you join us. Dependant on your salary GIAA will make a significant contribution to your pension, currently starting from 27%. Your contributions come out of your salary before any tax is taken and your pension will continue to provide valuable benefits for you and your family.

Paid volunteering days

We take volunteering very seriously and we see it as an opportunity for personal development. GIAA employees can claim up to five days of paid special leave for volunteering activities, which is more than the Civil Service minimum.

Free eyesight test

You are entitled to a full free eyesight test every two years and free standard spectacle frames and lenses if required for visual display units (VDU) and screens at work. You will receive a £50 voucher towards the cost of your glasses for VDU use. If you are not entitled to a free pair of glasses for VDU use, it may still be possible for you to get some help towards the cost of your glasses by requesting a £20 Specsavers Premium club voucher towards the cost of glasses from their £99+ range.
