About us
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business and Trade, and exists to make regulation work to deliver real world impact. Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action, and can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Our primary purpose is to protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence.
Your work with us
Our Enforcement Teams address non-compliance of product safety and standards, and we’re currently looking for passionate people to join two of our high profile and dynamic teams. The Products and Sectors Regulations Team is helping to build a regulatory landscape that prioritises consumer and environmental protection, and empowers businesses by providing smarter regulation. Join this team and it will be your task to help us enforce product, environmental and energy efficiency standards across various sectors, work that will help protect the nation’s families and drive sustainable growth.
The digital age demands a new approach to consumer protection, and if you join our Online and Supply Chain Enforcement Team you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring online shopping is held to the same rigorous standards as traditional retail business. By supporting the regulation of the supply chain, you’ll help protect consumers and ensure confidence in the marketplace.
Who we’re looking for
With a Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship qualification or its equivalent (or the expectation that you’ll achieve this within the next couple of months) you’ll have some experience of investigatory work in the fields of regulation, enforcement or compliance, and in addition to strong problem solving abilities, you should have excellent analytical skills and outstanding attention to detail. Highly flexible and capable of adapting quickly to changing workloads and priorities, you’ll be ready to contribute to and support the delivery of multi-faceted work plans.
With excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to research, understand and assess technical information, you’ll be capable of filtering and prioritising data with a view to understanding its relevance to the investigative process. You should also hold a full UK driving licence, although if you do not have one due to a protected characteristic, this will be taken into account. We’ll also expect you to be willing to travel nationally with occasional overnight stays.
The benefits you’ll receive
Join us and you’ll receive a wide range of excellent benefits, including a Civil Service pension, flexible working options and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity. You’ll also enjoy learning and development tailored to your role, flexible working options and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity.
We value diversity and inclusion and actively encourage and welcome applications from everyone, including those that are under-represented in our workforce. We promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of employment and a working environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimisation.
