About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF AWARD-WINNING CARBON SAVINGS ON HIGHWAYS PROJECTS

The Finance Team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where we go above and beyond for our residents – in all sorts of pioneering ways. By being smart and courageous with the council’s finances we can achieve more for our residents and wider society, especially when working closely with other council departments.

Our approach to responsible procurement and the way we work collaboratively with our suppliers can bring significant benefits, including huge reductions in environmental impact.

Take the award-winning Kings Street footway scheme. This was the first scheme of its kind in the UK to switch all possible high carbon materials and equipment for zero and low carbon alternatives. This included using electric tools and excavators, low carbon foundations, concrete and paving and zero-emission deliveries to site. The result? a 79% carbon saving compared to traditional techniques.

And why does this success matter? Because Kings Street has formed a blueprint for future projects. Its success has been translated to five further paving schemes, which have achieved savings of up to 94% operational carbon against comparable sites. A subsequent resurfacing project in Third Avenue achieved another UK first in its use of 85% recycled material on the roadway. These schemes demonstrate that partnership working with our suppliers can help us meet the councils net zero carbon targets.

The Role:

As Data and Intelligence Analyst, you can make your own powerful contribution to a wide range of projects that will really make a difference for people who live, visit and work in Westminster. Our vibrant economy, rich history and diverse communities make Westminster an endlessly fascinating place in which to conduct analysis. And our high profile, ambitious Fairer Westminster strategy means every project matters. Because it’s about making a Westminster that works for everyone – from tackling climate change, to regenerating iconic Oxford Street, to integrating smart tech into local homes to enhance delivery of social care services.

Whether you’re supporting talented economist, researcher and strategist colleagues or creating and shaping analytical projects, you’ll help to ensure the Council develops the right options, understands progress towards goals, and truly delivers for people. Carrying out creative analysis to solve complex problems, you’ll draw on a variety of tools and techniques. You will produce reports, presentations, charts, dashboards and recommendations that illuminate the way forward. You’ll relish the variety of work, the team spirit, the fast pace and – most importantly of all – the chance to support life-changing initiatives. If you are experienced in working with Excel, Power BI, Arc GIS and are keen to advance your analytical skills please do apply via the link in the advert.

Here, you’ll enjoy the challenge of balancing fast-paced work to short deadlines alongside complex strategic work with a longer horizon. You’ll especially enjoy getting to grips with new themes across our multi-faceted organisation. Crucially, you will also thrive when collaborating with diverse stakeholders and using a range of techniques to communicate analytical insights to people at all levels who are not technical experts.
