Head of Compliance
Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.
We have a vacancy for a Head of Compliance, one of two Heads leading the team within Ofgem that oversees how the GB energy retail markets operate, and encourages energy suppliers and other businesses (such as price comparison websites) to place the interests of their customers at the heart of their processes, decisions and operating culture. You’ll foster strong relationships and regular communication with suppliers and with a wide range of consumer bodies to ensure effective monitoring of the market and a swift response to any issues of non-compliance or poor practice. Providing strong leadership and direction to our compliance casework teams, you’ll oversee the effective management of a large number of compliance cases and also identify whether any should lead to more formal proceedings or a wider review of existing energy retail policy.
It’s an opportunity that will draw heavily on your leadership and management abilities to embed a commitment to positive outcomes for consumers in your team, and deliver this through effective performance management. You’ll need highly developed communication and relationship building skills, to support open and honest dialogue with suppliers where you will often have to engage on sensitive or contentious issues. You should be able to understand complex (often technical) issues and analysis and be able to bring these to life for different audiences. And you will have the breadth of perspective to identify policy requirements that respond to both Ofgem’s strategic priorities and wider social, economic, environmental and political developments.
Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
- Up to 30 days’ annual leave
- Excellent training and development opportunities
- The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
- Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
- Subsidised gym and restaurant
Interest free season ticket loan.
Closing date: midnight, 23rd July 2018.
