Principal Auditor

Directorate: Corporate Services
Location: 5 Pancras Square, London N1C 4AG
Salary: £40,028 – 46,431
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time, 36 hours per week

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an extremely motivated and proficient Principal Auditor to join a high performing and highly respected team. The Internal Audit team has an excellent profile and contributes to delivery of Council objectives through the delivery of a risk based audit plan. As a Principal Auditor, you will contribute to the Council’s governance and assurance framework by delivering a portion of the risk based audit plan and engaging with officers across the Council.

This role is unique in that it provides exciting opportunities to work alongside colleagues across our Shared Internal Audit Service with LB Islington. There are also opportunities to broaden your profile and knowledge base as we are part of a Cross Council Assurance Service consisting of six boroughs that co-source Internal Audit functions with a co-sourced provider. The Cross Council Assurance Service provides opportunities for auditors to network and share intelligence. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate wanting to advance a career in Internal Audit.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About you

You will be IIA qualified/part-qualified or hold an AAT qualification/similar, and you will have a sound understanding of risk based internal audit techniques and methodologies. The ideal candidate will currently be working in a private or public sector Internal Audit role and will have experience of delivering risk based audit reviews. We are looking for a self-motivated and effective team player with excellent verbal and written skills and the credibility and confidence to liaise with officers across the Council, including senior management.

Your technical skills will be supported by knowledge and experience of risk based audit techniques and you will have a proven track record of excellent customer focus. You will be able to work on your own initiative and have the ability to juggle conflicting priorities.

In return we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop within a high profile organisation. We also offer flexibility and agile working as well as an excellent package including a competitive salary, local government pension and generous annual leave. It's a great place to advance your skills and make a difference to the community. We recognise and reward high performance, and salary progression is based on individual performance.
