One of the biggest organisations in the British Midlands is looking for an Internal Audit Manager to join the team based in Nottingham. Reporting direct to the Head of Audit, the Internal Audit Manager plays a key role in helping set the direction of the audit function and influencing changes to the control environment within the organisation, so that risk is managed effectively.

This position gives the holder a broad insight into all aspects of the business, with high levels of exposure to senior management. It is regarded as a means of developing managerial talent of the future, either within the broader business or a more senior role in the audit team.

Major responsibilities:

  • Takes a lead role in assisting the Head of Audit in developing the annual Internal Audit activity plan. 
  • Manages ongoing relationships with the key senior stakeholders, to ensure the plan stays up to date and aligned to strategic priorities and key risks.
  • Develops the scope of internal audit reviews and agrees them with management.
  • Manages internal audits.  Coordinates the audit process with key stakeholders, manages the activities of other internal auditors (local and overseas) assigned to the project, and reviews the quality of work performed.
  • Reviews draft audit reports, and agrees the findings and proposed actions with the business owners.  Present findings to senior managers of the business and the Global Internal Audit Executive management team.
  • Coaches and mentors team members to help drive greater department effectiveness.
  • Acts as the liaison with other regional audits teams, so that we act as a single audit function.
  • Identifies and leads other ad hoc, project and investigation work as required, both within the department and across the broader organisation.
  • Acts as a champion for the concepts of internal control and risk throughout the business.
  • Maintains a professional development plan to improve technical, interpersonal and management skills consistent with the business’ requirements and talent management philosophy.

Required Abilities:

  • Demonstrates high levels of personal integrity at all times.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Influencing skills and gravitas, so that senior management will buy-in to changes being proposed.
  • The ability to work independently and proactively.
  • A commercial and pragmatic approach to governance and change.
  • A problem solver who proposes innovative solutions.
  • An approach that champions collaboration and consultation.
  • Language skills desirable but not essential.

Required Experience:

  • University degree with strong academics.
  • Relevant (professional services or industry) post qualified experience.
  • Experience of working in a multinational environment.
  • Awareness of relevant IT subject matter areas (e.g. data security; software development methodologies)
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. ACCA, CIA, CPA, ACA)
  • ‘Big 4/Top 10’ and/or internal audit experience desirable.

Note that the role will involve circa 20% overseas travel.
