Internal Audit, Finance, Planning and Data Insight Section

The prime responsibility of the Internal Audit team is to provide the University's Council and senior management with assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the University's risk management, control and governance arrangements. The team is attached to the Finance, Planning and Data Insight Section which is part of the University’s Professional Services and our remit covers all areas of work that the University undertakes, whether in academic departments or professional services, and covers all campuses.

Duties of the Role

The post holder will be responsible for providing an effective, efficient and well-regarded internal audit service to the University of Essex (and University of Suffolk under a cost sharing arrangement). As part of your role, you will be carrying out a range of audits in line with agreed procedures and applicable professional standards to specified deadlines with minimum supervision; identifying and agreeing cost effective and practical solutions to address any control weaknesses; and researching and interpreting the implications of professional and sector developments on internal audit.

Skills and qualifications required

You will need to be a fully qualified internal auditor or CCAB qualified accountant with evidence of continuing professional development.

Proven practical experience of internal auditing is essential as is the capacity to work autonomously and on your own initiative to meet deadlines and objectives. In addition to this, we require you to have significant skills and experience in;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to negotiate with and influence others
  • Operate confidently in a complex and changing environment
  • Analyse, interpret and clearly communicate complex issues to academic and professional colleagues
  • Audit Assignment planning and delivery
  • Investigative and analytical skills

The successful candidate will need to be extremely well organised with a proven ability to manage a busy and varied workload.
