Senior Tax Manager - Big 4 Australasia
Change Recruitment Group is working with a Big 4 firm in Papua New Guinea to assist them in the recruitment of a Senior Tax Manager.
Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. With a vibrant and colourful culture, Papua New Guinea has more than 600 islands and 800 indigenous languages and it has a population of just over 7 million, most of which live in customary communities. It is one of the most rural countries in the world as only 18 per cent of its people live in urban cities and it is one of the world's least explored locations and it is thought that many undiscovered species of plants and animals exist in the interior. Papua New Guinea is full of interesting attractions, magnificent natural scenery and diverse cultural heritage. From exploring the coral-ringed beaches to trekking, diving, snorkelling, surfing, fishing, kayaking or bird watching - Papua New Guinea is well suited for the adventurous type! There is also the well-known Yacht Club that is extremely popular amongst expatriates.
Papua New Guinea has had strong growth in mining and resources sector which has led to the country becoming the sixth fastest-growing economy in the world as of 2011. Papua New Guinea is richly endowed with natural resources, including mineral and renewable resources, such as forests, marine (including a large portion of the world's major tuna stocks), and in some parts agriculture. Mineral deposits, including gold, oil and copper, account for 72% of export earnings. Oil palm production has grown steadily over recent years with palm oil now being the main agricultural export. By 2012 PNG had enjoyed a decade of positive economic growth, at over 6% since 2007, even during the Global Financial Crisis years of 2008/2009. PNG's Real GDP growth rate in 2011 was 8.9% and went up to 9.2% in 2012 according to the Asian Development Bank. This economic growth has been primarily attributed to strong commodity prices, particularly mineral but also agricultural. With the high demand for mineral products largely sustained during the crisis by the buoyant Asian markets, a booming mining sector, and particularly since 2009, a buoyant outlook and construction phase for natural gas exploration, production and exportation - all of which has attracted multi-billion dollar investments. With the current Oil & Gas crisis, PNG remains partly isolated and the economy is still going strong, although there has been a minor halt in production which is predicted to pick back up towards the end of the year.
Any opportunity in Papua New Guinea should be held in high regard. The client exposure and developing market experience will further your career greatly in addition to providing you with a personal experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere in the world. PNG is commonly known for its "bad press" and security concerns, however, once these are fully understood, you can then look past it and see the fantastic opportunities that Papua New Guinea can offer. This Big 4 client is looking for a Senior Tax Manager to assist in the growth of their team. Ideally you will have experience of working in a Big 4 firm previously and experience from a Western and developing market will both be considered. A resilient personality is required and you must have researched the location and be committed to relocating to Papua New Guinea to be considered.
