Internal Audit Manager - exclusive role

I have been retained by one of the UK’s largest construction and engineering businesses to deliver a transformation project which will re-shape the structure of the Internal Audit (IA) team. The first assignment will be to find an Internal Audit Manager, based in central London.

On a day to day basis, the Internal Audit Manager (IAM) will be expected to plan, deliver and report on audits as part of the Group audit plan. The focus of work will be a mix of UK project audits, Group wide audits, as well as ad hoc investigations support and project work.

Also, as the IA function continues to develop and evolve, there will be significant opportunities to contribute to and drive process improvements within the department, as well as to shape internal processes and controls, which will drive real, business-wide commercial improvements across the UK&I (travel circa 40%, max.).

Given that this role provides extensive insight to the whole organisation and exposure to senior management, this is a role for those who aspire to hold a senior role in financial, operational or general management, and the IA team has a proven track record of drawing upon this with team members placed on key secondments to large transformation projects and to senior finance roles within the business.

We are looking for a candidate with thorough knowledge of audit procedures, including planning techniques, testing and sampling methods, most likely in a commercial environment. As a stakeholder manager, you will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence people in an objective and persuasive manner. Given the nature of the industry, and this organisation in general, this successful candidate will have to demonstrate initiative and commerciality in equal measure to build relationships with senior stakeholders, as part of a multi-disciplined team. Construction and engineering experience is helpful, but is absolutely not essential.
