The Role:

As a Principal Auditor you will support the Audit Manager and Head of Audit in delivery of audits through the entire audit process from planning through to issue management and closure of the Finance division.

Key Work Level Accountabilities:          

Manager/Expert:

  • For technical specialists, accountable for delivering expert advice or service, using specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
  • Manages conflicts that may impact delivery
  • Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
  • Identifies and anticipates need for changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output
  • Manages resources and risks using expert judgment, know-how and experience

Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • Collating and reviewing information on business areas for auditing
  • Interviewing management to understand processes followed and discussing potential audit observations
  • Writing and reviewing working papers to ensure they comply with the agreed standards and discussing findings with the Audit Manager and the Head of Audit
  • Drafting internal audit reports and assisting with finalising the findings and observations with audit management, and supporting in issue assurance management and closure.
  • Building strong and effective working relationships with senior management, teams and external auditors
  • Assisting the Audit Manager and Head of Audit in providing briefings to the Audit Director ahead of committee meetings
  • Assisting with the annual planning exercise to identify the areas of highest risk within Prudential and they key areas that should be audited

Experience:

  • Experience of acting as a technical coach / mentor to less experienced members of an audit team
  • Experience of working closely with senior management and Audit Committees to understand and deliver against expectations
  • Experience of assessing, reacting quickly and decisively to problems once identified, taking tough decisions where needed
  • Significant experience of a broad range of audit frameworks and approaches, covering financial and non-financial risk
  • Experience of influencing and negotiation at all levels of the organisation, strong awareness of when to escalate audit issues upwards to more senior members of the audit team
  • Experience of influencing others and building strong relationships across the business

Knowledge:

  • Detailed knowledge of audit tools, techniques and industry best practice
  • Detailed level knowledge of the UK Financial Services sector, including regulatory, governance and risk management rules and regulations relevant to financial and non-financial risk
  • Detailed understanding of Prudential UK company processes and related risks
  • Detailed knowledge of the principles of accounting and auditing and their application to the business
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. Accountant / Actuary / Auditor) with relevant post qualification experience
  • Working knowledge of professional standards and codes relating to the specialism (Actuarial, Accounting, Auditing or IT Auditing)
  • Working knowledge of Prudential products, systems and distribution methods
  • Understanding of the Statement of Principle and Code of Practice Personal attributes
  • Ability to build relationships with an understand the business whilst retaining complete independence as an auditor
