Head of Risk & Assurance

The Audit & Risk Recruitment Company (ARRC) have been selected by a leading Utilities business to recruit a new Head of Risk & Assurance.

This role represents an enormous opportunity for a leading audit & risk practitioner to step up to a ‘number 1’ role in a great business with a large established team.

The department comprises four teams: Internal Audit, Risk Management, Business Integrity and Regulatory Compliance. You will be accountable for a budget of £3m annually and a team of c. 20 that includes 6 direct reports.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Planning, execution and reporting of a high-quality assurance programme
• Driving improvements in the understanding of risk management and control frameworks
• Providing direction, oversight, and challenge to the Regulatory Compliance Programme
• Ensuring fraud and corruption risks are minimised
• Leading the development and implementation of the Risk & Assurance Strategic Roadmap
• Providing insight to Board on the maturity of the control framework and areas for enhancement;
• Coaching & mentoring team members to support development
• Ongoing liaison with senior stakeholders to maintain an objective and up to date view of risk
• Developing and delivering a communications and engagement plan to raise awareness of regulatory obligations
• Enhancing the Risk and Assurance data analytics strategy and developing the team capabilities

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Exceptional communication skills; both written and verbal
• Personal credibility and gravitas to interact at Board and Executive level
• Highly developed skills in risk assessment, control framework design, and assurance strategy
• Experience of leading large teams of Risk & Assurance professionals, delivering control framework improvements, and driving change programmes
• Experience of implementing leading-edge GRC solutions (desirable)
• Strong influencer who can readily adapt to different negotiating styles
• Proactive, collaborative, problem-solving approach
