The Team

Within our Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO), the CSG Portfolio and Business Management team support HMRC deliver strategic change and run our existing processes by providing portfolio and business management support to wider CSG (Customer Services Group. The function acts as a bridge between the business and IT delivery areas of the organisation.

Job description

As Portfolio Analyst in the Portfolio and Business Management function, you will play a key part in supporting the Leadership team in the delivery of their key priorities.

This is a fast paced, high-profile role. It will require excellent communication skills as well as a flexible, engaging and adaptable approach. Within this role, you will have significant opportunity to shape and implement your own objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Create data driven insight products/tooling, to present information to stimulate longer-term thinking and draw together insight from a wide range of sources.
  • Design and Interrogate MI, analyse complex data feeds and create products and processes to inform/engage with senior relevant stakeholders across CDIO, CSG and Transformation
  • Provide robust data and analysis to support senior decision making, and where appropriate, challenge and support to senior stakeholders.
  • Review, develop and improve existing reports and MI tooling, and measures to gain a more rounded view overall portfolio performance (inc live service) including demand, capacity and delivery status.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key colleagues and stakeholders across CIO CSG. Be confident engaging with people of all grades and roles.

Essential Skills

You will already have knowledge, understanding and experience of:

  • Strong confident leadership skills, including the ability to lead peers and inspire respect from a wide range of key stakeholders
  • Consistently work with pace, demonstrating the ability to prioritise, work flexibly and deliver through others where appropriate.
  • Self-starter and effective leader with good organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyse, manipulate and present information and data to provide insight and support decision making.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in using tools to build visualisations (Project Management Tools, Gantt Charts, Dashboard Presentation Tools, Power BI or similar).

Desirable Skills

Ideally you will also have:

  • Experience of working in a portfolio/project management environment and of using portfolio standards and processes to analyse MI
  • Experience of Portfolio/demand management tooling (such as Clarity or ServiceNow, JIRA) would be beneficial.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
