Risk and Intelligence Services aims to provide insight into compliance risks and threats to inform key compliance priorities, planning and decision making at all levels. We design and innovate risk and intelligence models, tools and services to drive more efficient ways of working and deliver better compliance outcomes across Customer Compliance Group. Our high-quality risk and intelligence products and services deliver to partners in HMRC and across government. We aim to help Customer Compliance group deliver sustained compliance in the most efficient and effective way. We do that by providing data and intelligence driven insight to decision makers at all levels, and by innovating to provide new ways to identify, understand and intervene to treat compliance risk.

Job description

The successful candidate will be working in a team of innovative team of specialist data analysts to provide deep insight to compliance risks using open source data and industry standard tooling within a bespoke analytical cloud environment. You will collaborate with other analysts to trial and develop new approaches in open source data collection, integration, analysis and presentation.

As well as leading projects to develop capability, you will also undertake training to learn and be able to deploy a range of analytical techniques from an array of analysis professions including statistics, operational research, intelligence analysis, data analysis and using coding to develop new tools (primarily R and Python).

You will carry out robust analysis to deliver sound and actionable insights to compliance, ensuring to always operate within legal parameters.

Responsibilities

As an Open-Source Data Analyst:

  • You will have an inquiring and questioning mind. Able to quickly assimilate and make sense of complex subjects and data.
  • You will be proficient in using applications to manipulate multiple data sets. For example, using Excel/PowerBI/Tableau to merge, analyse and consolidate data using pivot tables, functions, and charts.
  • You will be comfortable in learning to use new tools and work with large datasets, including unstructured data, government, public and commercially available data.
  • You will be a good communicator, able to work with multiple customers to understand their requirements, balance conflicting demands, provide progress updates.
  • You will be adept at explaining and simplifying technical analysis in a manner that enables others to understand and act on analytical outcomes.
  • You will have excellent organisational and strong literacy and interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a wider team and individually taking responsibility for delivering high quality analytical products.

Desirable Experience

  • Practical experience of using any of the following tools and languages to analyse and manipulate data is desirable: HTML, R, Python or similar.
  • A background in formal mathematics and / or statistical training (statistics, mathematics, pure sciences, computer science).
  • Undertaken technical analytical roles and practical experience of data analysis or intelligence.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
