Job Details

The UK’s intelligence community.
It’s yours to audit.

At MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, we work together to keep the UK safe. We work closely as partners in the intelligence community to safeguard Britain’s people and interests from various threats including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. As an Internal Auditor, you’ll help support our missions by delivering value and insight across all three agencies and enjoy some incredibly impactful audit work.

You’ll deliver internal audit assurance and advisory work across a wide range of topics. From reviewing capabilities essential to our mission, through to looking at the legal frameworks underpinning our work, you’ll cover exciting operational and corporate areas. Everything you do will strengthen our risk management, governance and internal control arrangements. Whether you work independently or as part of a small team, you’ll take pride in delivering high quality and impactful services, while continuously looking for ways to innovate.

To join, you’ll need to hold (or be working towards) a relevant professional qualification. You’ll also have internal audit and risk management experience, along with knowledge of applying audit testing methodologies, data analysis, root cause analysis and report writing skills. And with experience of working on a range of assignments, you’ll proactively manage your own workload well.

No matter whether you choose a generalist or technology specialism, you’ll need to be comfortable working at pace and adapting to changing requirements. You’ll be able to understand business arrangements and identify ways to constantly improve ways of working. Your experience of negotiating with different levels of stakeholders means you can build effective working relationships and interact with a range of people.

In return, you’ll join a welcoming and supportive workplace where we’ll help you fulfil your potential. We offer comprehensive training and development opportunities, as well as a flexible working policy to ensure a healthy work-life balance. Where possible, we also accommodate reduced hours or job share options.

We are proud to have achieved Leader status within the DWP’s Disability Confident scheme. This is aimed at encouraging employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. Being Disability Confident, we aim to ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum criteria for this position will be offered an interview where practicable; this is known as ‘Offer of an Interview’. To secure an interview for this vacancy, the minimum criteria (in order of application process) are:

  • Passing the eligibility stage
  • Meeting essential criteria for the role at the application form stage

At MI5, MI6 and GCHQ diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodiverse conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce.
