At MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, we work together to keep the UK safe. We work closely as partners in the intelligence community to safeguard Britain’s people and interests from various threats including cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. Our Internal Audit and Consultancy team help support our mission by delivering value and insight across all three agencies. In this role, you’ll join our senior leadership team and lead our hugely rewarding audit programme. 

You’ll work across the intelligence community, so you’ll support your teams to deliver internal audit assurance and advisory work across a wide range of topics. This’ll cover unique and exciting areas – everything from reviewing capabilities essential to our mission, through to looking at the legal frameworks underpinning our work. 

To do this, you’ll focus on creating effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. After understanding their needs, you’ll motivate your team and drive improvement at every opportunity. Your leadership and influence will provide customers with high quality assurance, advisory and investigatory services and strengthen our risk management, governance, and internal control arrangements. 

To join, you’ll bring your leadership skills together with your experience in internal audit and risk management. Plus, you’ll have a professional qualification, the ability to evaluate business arrangements and to deliver a complex portfolio of work. You’ll also use your analytical skills to get to grips with strategic objectives and risks, analyse evidence and reach sound conclusions. 

Your effective communication skills also mean that you can build rapports with a range of stakeholders. This’ll help you to deliver difficult messages, promote collaborative working and influence real change. You’ll also enjoy finding different strengths within a team and creating a culture where everyone feels valued and supported. All of this will help you to set a clear direction.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. One of your parents must be a British Citizen or must have one of the nationalities or citizenships from one of the following: British Overseas Territory, British Subject, British National (Overseas), British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person, citizenship of a country in the Commonwealth, citizenship of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA), or citizenship of the United States of America (USA). If deceased, they should have had such citizenship or nationality before death. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. If successful, you will not normally be required to give up your non-British citizenship but, as a condition of your employment or secondment, MI5, MI6 and GCHQ may impose restrictions on your postings, work travel and/or general use of that nationality. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. Each case will be carefully considered on its own facts. You can apply at the age of 17 years and 6 months, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday.
