You would be joining this team at an exciting time as we recruit the first people into the team. Our focus is to rapidly become the centre of excellence for Management Information (MI) within CPO (Chief People Office - (HR) via training, continual development and delivering an exceptional standard of work.

Job description

In response to the MI Strategy, CPO is centralising it's MI production. This new team will be instrumental in ensuring the MI we use to make decisions in HMRC is produced to professional and consistent standards. We will be responsible for the design, build and delivery of HMRCs key MI reports. We'll do this by building self-service reports in Power Bi. Key to this, will be developing accurate, relevant, and clear visualisation for all our large and varying HR data sets.

The purpose of the team is to enable business leads to access accurate, up to date and pertinent information needed to run their businesses. We do this by designing, delivering, and maintaining centrally produced MI that enables our business leads to access and self-serve insight from the data we present.

This is a delivery-based role. A major part of our team's responsibility is to deliver CPO MI reporting as per our pre-agreed service offer to our customers. This role is integral in the design and delivery of this reporting and thus both experience and enthusiasm for the development of powerful data visualisations is key.

This role is for one of 2 Executive Officers within the team and will report into the MI Delivery, Design & Analytics Higher Officer. Alongside others, you will be integral in the building and delivery of a MI service offering across varied and large business areas.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce the central business as usual (BAU) 'information reports' using a combination of Power BI, Excel, VBA and R Coding skills. Initially, focussing on the development of a new self-service product.
  • Understand and act on customer requirements needed to produce new reports, report catalogue listings and Power BI dashboards from scratch.
  • Monitor and report on the usage of Power BI reports.
  • Respond to fast turnaround requests, for information that is not self-service, including Freedom of Information requests.
  • Become an expert on CPOs Management Information and be able clearly and confidently share your knowledge with others.
  • Undertake peer to peer quality assurance work.
  • Adhere to governance process, ensuring that our MI is GDPR complaint at all times.
  • You will, on occasion, be asked to deputise for an HO.

  • You have a great attention for detail, with the ability to overcome obstacles and escalate where appropriate.

  • You can demonstrate the ability to work on multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Ensuring accuracy, quality and timely delivery.
  • You have the ability to understand the wider scope of the work you deliver, appreciating how your delivery fits within your wider team's objectives against the MI strategy.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of working with large datasets, using complex formula & data visualisation techniques to manipulate data in MS Excel.
  • You can demonstrate proficiency in visualisation techniques such as pivot tables, graphs, charts or software packages such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • You can demonstrate the ability to work on multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Ensuring accuracy, quality and timely delivery.

Desirable criteria:

  • An understanding or working knowledge of HR data would be advantageous but not essential as it will be acquired in the role.
  • Ability to engage and interact with stakeholders, ensuring clear and precise communication.
  • An understanding of data security and GDPR regulations.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
