Job description

HMRC Security has responsibility for setting strategic direction, producing and maintaining policies and providing specialist advice, guidance and enabling services across all aspects of Security, Business Continuity and Knowledge and Information Management (KIM).

HMRC Security manages the professionalism agenda for Security, (including Cross Government), Business Continuity and KIM.

You will develop and maintain effective day to day working relationships with customers and stakeholders providing advice and guidance where necessary.

SADA is responsible for monitoring of HMRC and IT supplier staff for wrongdoing in the business systems utilised in both areas.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the SADA HO manager the main responsibilities of the job holder will be:

You will develop and maintain effective day to day working relationships with customers and stakeholders providing advice and guidance where necessary.

You will manage your own time and resource effectively, proactively identifying and taking ownership of issues affecting the delivery of the team's objectives. You will provide solutions and options to fulfil deadlines and successful outcomes. You will also deliver ad-hoc management led tasks within agreed deadlines.

You will be an effective team member supporting own team members, management and wider HMRC Security when appropriate.

You will provide subject matter expertise as required regarding audit data and outputs from the team.

You may be required to prepare witness statements about your provision of audit data as evidence in criminal investigations with the expectation of appearing in court as a witness of truth.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Specialist knowledge and experience:
  • Experience/knowledge of HMRC systems
  • Knowledge of the risks relating to HMRC IT systems and how data may be misused for fraud
  • Experience/knowledge of IDEA, Business Objects, Oracle Discoverer, Guardium, Unix, SQL, Splunk and M365
  • Knowledge of GDPR, employment legislation and HMRC's Acceptable Use policy
  • An aptitude in business data analysis and risk profiling

Integrity:

HMRC Security may make background checks and any offer will be withdrawn if you fail to disclose any relevant material that causes conflict with you being able to complete the duties of the role; which will include:

  • Providing witness statements;
  • Dealing with evidence within the evidential chain
  • Giving evidence in court.
  • This role requires SC vetting - There is an essential requirement for candidates to have Security Vetting level of SC, or an agreement to undertake and achieve SC, in order to undertake this role.

  • 22 days leave (pro rata for part time staff), which increases to 25 after a year's service and 30 days after 10 years service.


Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
