The Senior Data Analyst in Compliance is responsible for the development, tuning, analysis, and ongoing maintenance of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/OFAC risk related models, including Data Validation, and is also responsible for application of Data Science and Analytics for BSA/AML/OFAC business uses. Through these tasks, the position provides compliance oversight of the regulatory requirements of BSA/AML/USA Patriot Act and OFAC Laws, as well as the general support of Wintrust s BSA/AML/OFAC Program, Policies, and Procedures. The role can be expected to have a blend of Business Analyst and Systems Analyst functions, with a need to combine business and compliance understanding with technical aptitudes and skills. The Senior Data Analyst position is expected to have strong experience and tested skills sets to address business problems, and function as a peer leader for the unit.

What You'll Do

  • BSA/AML/OFAC Modeling - Includes the start to finish development, testing, tuning, and implementation of BSA Department Models. Activities are conducted on both 3rd party purchased models as well as homegrown models. This includes but not limited to writing of code, the training / fitting of the model parameters, and meeting model risk management governance requirements.

  • Applied Data Science & Analytics - Includes the application of Data Science & Analytics to address new and existing business challenges within the subject of BSA/AML/OFAC. This includes discovery and clear reporting of business insights through data visualization tools, as well as recommending, developing, and implementing best practice business solutions.

  • Documentation & Presentation - Includes complete & clear documentation of the Modeling and Analytic activities, as well as presentation of insights and recommendations to BSA Leadership.

  • Modeling & Analytics Subject Matter Expert Liaison - This position is expected to act as a key contact point for other Wintrust units that have overlapping interest. These other units are principally IT Application Support, Project Management, and IT Data Management, and other compliance analysts. The position is expected to represent BSA from a Model and Analytics impact perspective.

  • Scrutiny Response - Includes responding to inquiries from internal and external validators, as well as regulators. Responses include but are not limited to explaining models and solution processes clearly, as well as addressing any official findings and/or recommendations.

  • Other Duties - Includes addressing other duties as assigned relevant to the BSA Model Development Unit.

Qualifications

  • AML Professional Certification Preferred (e.g. ACAMS)

  • Bachelor s or Master s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or other Applied Quantitative Field (Significant Experience, or Degree Candidacy in-lieu of Master s Degree)

  • 5+ Years of BSA/Compliance Experience

  • 5+ Years of Model Testing & Tuning Experience

  • 5+ Years of Applied Data Analysis & Reporting Experience

  • 3+ Years of Model Development Experience

  • Mastery in Database Language Skills (e.g. SQL)

  • Mastery in Statistical Analysis Tool Skills (e.g. SAS, R, Microsoft Power Query, Alteryx)

  • Mastery in Reporting & Visualization Tools Skills (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Business Objects)

  • Intermediary in Programming Language Skills (e.g. Python)

  • Mastery in Excel or Equivalent Spreadsheet Skills

  • Highly skilled at Documentation and Communication of Analytical and Modeling work/subjects to audiences of varying degrees of subject knowledge.

  • Intermediary skills at responding to 3rd party reviews/challenges (e.g. Exams and Audits)

  • Exposure to the use of ML/AI to solve business cases

  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Skilled at teaching, mentoring, and leading other Unit analysts.

  • Excellent Natural Aptitude for analytics and skill growth

  • Naturally curious and outside the box thinker, with creative problem solving skills

  • Desire to work in a fast growing environment with strong time management skills
