Deputy Director, Head of Internal Audit
Location: We operate a hybrid working model and fully support flexibility with colleagues already based across the UK working from home and linked to one of our core locations in Newport, London, Titchfield (Fareham) or Darlington.

This is a key role for the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as a whole. We see this role as instrumental in ensuring the organisation is delivering on the ambition set out in our strategy ‘Statistics for the Public Good’.
ONS is the largest producer of official statistics and the recognised National Statistical Institute (NSI) of the UK. We play a unique role: informing debate and improving decision making across the country. Throughout the pandemic, the prominence and influence of our statistics have continued to grow, placing ever more importance on our responsibility to set and maintain standards and deliver statistics that are easy to use and designed to meet the wider public good as well as the needs of government. To support that, this role will play a key role in providing assurance over the framework of risk, governance, and control.
This role is about providing assurance to the Chief Executive and our Audit and Risk Assurance Committee that we have the plans, resources, and infrastructure in place to manage the complexity of our transformation portfolio and regular production of key economic and social statistics.
The key challenges will be:
- Leading the development and implementation of the Internal Audit Strategy and supporting programmes of work
- Building and maintaining strong relationship with senior stakeholders and non-executives across the organisation; driving a robust, efficient, and future focused approach to internal audit
- Leading our Internal Audit capability, as well as managing the relationship with our co-source partner
- Contributing to the wider leadership of the directorate, making ONS a great place to work.

This role has a minimum assignment duration of 3 years. An assignment duration is the period of time a Senior Civil Servant is expected to remain in the same post to enable them to deliver on the agreed key business outcomes. The assignment duration also supports your career through building your depth of expertise.
