The team

This role sits in the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) group. CFO supports our people and the running of HMRC by providing commercial, estates, finance, control, banking internal audit and HR Shared Services as well as looking after Corporate Services Transformation.

This role is within the HMRC Shared Services area. Across government, Shared Services touches the lives of over 450,000 civil servants providing business critical tools in human resources, finance, payroll and procurement to enable employees to deliver public services.

The Government Shared Services (GSS) ambition is for better services, with modernised systems, delivering the business greater value and efficiencies.

The 'Shared Service Strategy for Government: 2022 and beyond' sets the ambition that it will be delivered through the creation of five service centres across Government. HMRC had been asked to provide shared services to HMRC, the Department for Transport and the Department for for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and their subsidiary bodies, across the finance, HR and procurement functions, using SAP as their core ERP technology.

Job description

The Data and Reporting lead will head up a team of 15 data professionals.

The team currently provides reporting from both SAP and Oleeo (recruitment) systems to meet HMRC's legislative requirements and business needs.

The team are heavily involved in impacting and testing changes to the system brought about by policy and continuous improvement projects, to ensure the continuity of our reporting capacity.

With an eye on the future, as we introduce cloud based corporate systems this role will be heavily involved in defining and implementing our future data and reporting approach.

Responsibilities

You will play an active role in ; designing and agreeing the data and reporting strategies and standards for GSS, data quality assessments and testing to support migration to the new SAP systems.
  • You will confidently build relationships with stakeholders within HMRC and across the HMRC led Cluster to learn lessons and support the data and reporting workstream of the GSS programme.
  • You will have experience of leading teams/projects through ambiguity and times of change.
  • You will champion data security across the HMRC Shared Service, supporting us to remain GRPR compliant.
  • You will have a passion for innovation and build automation tools and techniques into the strategic direction of the team to drive continuous improvement.
  • You will lead your team in a supportive and effective way to deliver a quality service to customers.
  • You will have a strong attention to detail to ensure reporting accuracy is high across the team and processes are designed to maximise both efficiency and accuracy.
  • You will lead the team to upskill on new software to prepare for the transition to GSS.

Essential Criteria:
  • Strong experience of data and reporting using the SAP system to allow you to engage on both a technical and strategic level with your team and a broad range of stakeholders.
  • A proven ability to drive business decisions through the provision of high-quality data and effective data visualisation.
  • Proven track record of working with and influencing senior colleagues and stakeholders.

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
