Job Details

A unique organisation.
A growing profile.
A new challenge for a risk expert.

The challenge

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation, responsible for regulating nuclear site health and safety, nuclear safety, security, safeguards and the transport of radioactive materials. It’s a fast-moving industry that’s undergoing expansion, which makes ONR an exciting place to be. Bring your skills to our organisation and discover a role that’s unique.

The role

At ONR, we’re dedicated to being a modern, transparent regulator – and you can play your part. As Risk Manager, you’ll oversee and implement enterprise risk management processes for the UK’s nuclear regulator; a vital and varied role. You’ll be joining a fast-paced organisation where change is happening rapidly, with digital technologies adopted at speed. This means you’ll have a diverse role, working across the organisation, supporting colleagues with risk.

Join us, and you could be tackling high-level strategic risk one day and operational risks the next. It’s a broad remit and, as ONR changes, you’ll have an increasingly high-profile role. You’ll be at the forefront of embedding risk management, a task that could mean discussing emerging risks with directors, fostering relationships with risk owners and helping to identify controls and mitigate risk actions. With many stakeholders to deal with, you must be good with people.

The person

Day to day, you could be reviewing risk registers, advising leaders or leading the Risk Champions Forum. Using your risk management experience, you will be able to work independently to provide strategic risk analysis across the organisation. A relevant risk management or audit qualification would be an advantage, but isn’t essential – it’s expertise and communication that count. With your excellent people skills, you’ll be able to sway and influence stakeholders and champion a proactive approach to risk.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £43,524 to £52,565 plus an additional £4,052 London Weighting Allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits), and generous holiday entitlement.
