The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) are an executive agency of Her Majesty’s Treasury (HM Treasury), established in April 2015 to improve the quality of internal audit provided to central government.

About the role

The Project and Programme Management (PPM) team provide independent assurance and advice to Government major projects and programmes. We are expanding the team due to increased and sustained demand for specialist PPM work being commissioned from the Agency. We are looking for an Audit Manager to join us as part of this expansion - our work can be highly complex and high profile requiring considerable customer liaison working alongside key decision makers, other auditors and private sector contractors to deliver value to the Agency and its customers.

Leading a professional team of auditors, this role will allow you to challenge and develop your skills whilst ensuring we meet customer expectations. Key accountabilities

  • Contribute to developing and implementing GIAA PPM plans which reflect the priorities of clients and the relative importance and risk of projects and programmes underway or planned
  • Engage optimally with senior collaborators to support the identification and management of key risks and to promote effective governance, risk management, control and assurance arrangements
  • Deliver individual reviews in line with quality, time and budget requirements to support robust assurance opinions and other agreed customer requirements
  • Deliver robust, evidence-based, independent assurance opinions to clients and Audit Committees in accordance with the agreed timetables
  • Lead people to manage, recognise and reward good performance; promote personal and professional development; nurture and manage talent. Act promptly on feedback and issues. Challenge and address inappropriate behaviour and poor performance. Promote equality and diversity

About you

All candidates will need to demonstrate full current membership of a recognised professional accountancy or audit body, either:

1) Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors UK & Ireland and must hold chartered auditor/CMIIA designation or the MIIA designation where you are qualified under the previous exam route and did not apply to make this chartered. If you have passed all the CMIIA/MIIA exams but do not hold the designation, you are not eligible to apply.

2) Other Institutes of Internal Auditors that are part of IIA Global. If you studied with the Institute of Internal Auditors in another country, you must hold the equivalent of the MIIA designation. You should verify this with the IIA UK & Ireland prior to submitting your application, by emailing membership@iia.org.uk No other level of internal audit qualifications meets the requirements of this post.

OR

3) Accountancy, fully qualified, current member of one of five CCAB bodies (ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS, Chartered Accountants Ireland), CIMA.

PPM experience and/or qualifications in delivering or providing assurance to projects and programmes is highly desirable, but not essential. Successful candidates who meet the essential qualifications will be offered training and an opportunity to qualify and to become a member of the Association for Project Management (APM).
