The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavor for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The APS 5 Quality Assurance Officer is accountable, under broad direction, for undertaking complex quality assurance, compliance and continuous improvement activities within an integrated workforce. The role requires a sound understanding of quality management systems, the ability to interpret and apply policy and procedures, and the capability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support organisational priorities.
The APS 5 Quality Assurance Officer is expected to work with a reasonable degree of independence, exercising initiative and judgement in the interpretation of guidelines, the delivery of quality assurance outcomes, and the identification of opportunities to strengthen organisational quality practices.
The duties of an APS5 Quality Assurance Officer include but are not limited to:
- Work with internal and external stakeholder to build mandatory QMS compliance requirements.
- Apply knowledge to implement best practice QMS processes within ASA.
- Support the management with quality management administrative and audit support activities.
- Work collaboratively with the team to deliver quality and reform activities, including assurance reviews, to validate compliance and identify continuous improvement opportunities;
- Implement change management actions arising from policy or business process updates, ensuring effective QMS implementation;
- Develop procedures, training and support materials to build and improve QMS functions.
- Provide secretariat support in various forums.
- Conduct monitoring and analysis activities related to QMS service delivery.
- Collaborate with the management and the team to deliver team and ASA priorities.
About our Team
The Platform Systems Branch of the Australian Submarine Agency Engineering and Technical Division works to assure and evolve the non-nuclear platform system engineering capabilities that will underpin the safe, stealthy, effective and enduring sovereign operation of Australia’s nuclear powered submarines.
Our branch is responsible for the technical governance, safety certification and OQE development for Australia’s nuclear-powered submarine capability through managing a wide spectrum of specialist technical functions, including naval architecture, transverse systems integration, and stealth management.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, with experience in reviewing documents, analysing information, identifying risks or inconsistencies, and following through to completion. You take a proactive approach to organising work, meeting deadlines and delivering consistent, high quality outputs.
- Well developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, including the ability to communicate respectfully, negotiate effectively, and tailor your approach to different audiences. You demonstrate professionalism, integrity and the ability to build constructive working relationships.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports, instructions, meeting papers, guidance materials or training content. You can present information logically and persuasively, and you contribute constructively to discussions and team decision making.
