Job Description

A leading professional services firm in Bermuda is looking for a U.S. Tax Manager to lead complex compliance and advisory work for insurance and reinsurance clients, helping them stay ahead of evolving U.S. tax requirements while keeping quality high across every deliverable.

This is a technical role with real client leadership attached. You'll oversee work from planning through completion, coach the people underneath you, and become the day-to-day contact clients turn to on tax compliance, tax accounting and cross-border matters.

Life in Bermuda

  • Pink-sand beaches and clear turquoise water that stay within easy reach year-round
  • Pastel houses with white stepped roofs built to collect rainwater, the island's only natural freshwater source
  • An island small enough that almost nowhere is more than half an hour away; most people get around by scooter
  • Front Street in Hamilton, with its harbour views, shops and restaurants right on the water
  • Super tax friendly
  • Low crime and a genuine sense of safety day and night
  • One of the world's leading insurance and reinsurance centres, so you're surrounded by people who know the industry at the highest level
  • Subtropical climate, outdoor living as the default: beaches, water sports, golf (more courses per square mile than almost anywhere), sailing and diving
  • English-speaking, strong professional and expat community
Plenty of people come for the role and stay because the place itself is hard to leave.

What the role involves

  • Leading preparation and review of US tax returns for insurance and reinsurance companies
  • Overseeing income tax provision work and advising on tax accounting matters
  • Advising clients on cross-border insurance and reinsurance structures
  • Identifying state and local tax obligations relevant to insurance companies
  • Owning engagement planning, budgeting and delivery across multiple priorities
  • Reviewing work, coaching the team and building their technical growth
  • Acting as the day-to-day client contact, managing expectations across compliance and advisory work

What you'll bring

  • USCPA qualified or Enrolled Agent
  • 5+ years of US Tax experience gained within a Big Four firm ideally in US, Canada, UK or Ireland
  • Strong technical grounding in Subchapter L, loss reserve discounting, unearned premium reserves, captive insurance taxation and reinsurance arrangements
  • Experience advising on tax accounting and cross-border structures for insurance clients
  • A track record of managing, mentoring and developing staff at different levels
